Winter can be a magical time of year. You get to experience the holidays, and you can enjoy events and activities that only cold weather can bring, such as sledding, ice skating and skiing.
Sometimes, though, the cold and dreary weather can be overwhelming and depressing. In these cases, it’s often a good idea to pack your bags and head out of town. If you want to escape the winter blues, the following tips can help you start planning now.
1. Know what you want to do.
Before you can choose exactly where you want to go, you first have to know exactly what you want to do. Do you want to sit on the beach all day and enjoy the nightlife at night? Do you want to escape to a deserted location where nobody can bother you? Do you want to go hiking or sightseeing? Not every location offers the same attractions, so knowing exactly what you want to do while on your vacation will help you to determine where to go.
2. Decide where you want to go.
If you truly want to escape the winter weather, you need to go somewhere warm. Many popular beaches and tropical locations are extremely busy during this time of year, so try to think outside the box. Maybe you want to attend Carnival in Rio or Mardi Gras in New Orleans? Try to decide where you want to go, and don’t be afraid to choose some lesser known tropical getaways in order to eliminate the amount of tourists you’ll encounter while traveling.
3. Plan early.
There are plenty of people that want to get away during the winter, which means that airline and hotel prices are likely to go up. Try to plan your winter getaway vacation as early as you possibly can so that you can snag the best deals on hotels and flights. Plus, if you plan early enough, you’ll have better options for room choices, seats and times on flights and even booking other attractions.
4. Consider leaving at random times.
When it comes to booking a flight, most people opt for the times that are most convenient for them, such as during the day. However, opting for a less popular time, such as very early in the morning or very late at night, can help you snag some great airlines deals. You may also land yourself on a plane that’s barely full, giving you and your travel companions some much needed space.
5. Book any and all activities in advance.
Because so many people are looking to getaway during the winter, it’s likely that your tropical getaway maybe crowded. This is why it’s very important for you to book any activities and reservations far enough in advance. If you wait to book activities until you arrive, it’s likely there will not be any availabilities throughout your trip. Plus, if you book early, it’s likely you’ll be able to save a great deal of money.
