Surfing

Professional surfers will tell you that one of the most famous breaks in the world is Witches Rock in Costa Rica. During high tide, this remote area offers adventure travelers fast hollow rights and smaller, but sweet, lefts. The uniform sandbar creates ripable waves that stand up on a point. The tropical climate of Costa Rica means surfing is active all year round.

When you are done at Witches Rock, move up the coast to Ollie’s Point or down to Playa Grande. Costa Rica offers dozens of break points for a surfing adventure to remember.

Canopy Tours

The combination of wooded and mountainous regions in Costa Rica makes it a natural for canopy tours. A canopy tour uses zip-lines and aerial bridges to travel through countryside. This format gives Costa Rica travelers a distinctive view of the natural flora and fauna in the country. True adventurers can move from platform to platform via the lines using a harness and pulley system. Those looking for something more serene can enjoy the same bird’s eye panorama from suspension bridges.

Canyoning

The diverse geography of Costa Rica includes many canyons complete with challenging bedrock stone cliffs, narrow gorges and breathtaking drops. Climbers get a unique thrill when taking advantage of Costa Rica adventure. Put simply, a canyoning vacation is about exploration. Travelers walk, hike and rappel their way through some of the most remote canyons in the country to see the spectacular waterfalls. Canyoning in Costa Rica is the ultimate challenge.

White Water Rafting

Where there are waterfalls and canyons, there is bound to be opportunities for white water rafting, as well. Costa Rica offers rivers that range from Class II to Class V rapids. This means that paddlers and experience rafters alike will find something of interest. While tumbling down the mountainsides, rafters get a dazzling view of the exotic beauty that is Costa Rica. White water rafters have a number of rivers to choose from including Rios Pacuare and Corobici.

There are many good reasons that Costa Rica is becoming one of the most active vacation spots in the world but adventure is at the top of the list. From the white beaches to the wooded mountaintops, Costa Rica has something for everyone looking for a thrill.
