Prepare Your Home For Travel

Prepare Your Home For Travel: In my home, preparing for travel was always a hectic experience! Everybody was always rushing last minute to squeeze the necessary things in. You would think that after one vacation, we would all learn our lessons. There is nothing worse than going on a trip unprepared. I remember this experience from when I was younger.

An Unfortunate  Experience

When I was younger, I was in the boy scouting program. It was my first summer camp. I was a pretty innocent scout that didn’t know much about summer camp. Yet…. Reality soon hit me when I got to camp. Since it was my first time, my mother had packed all of my items. I thought this was pretty sweet at the time until later the next morning. Scout Camp was great! I swam a lot and took various calluses like archery and wilderness survival. The food in general was pretty bad, but being the chubby kid that I was, I scarfed every bit up.

After a long fun first day everyone settled down around camp and got things ready for bed. When I went to open my base camp backpack, I was shocked to find that my mother had packed me an air mattress. This would have been no problem if I was in the middle of the woods. Trees didn’t come with electricity outlets either! How was I supposed to blow it up? I thought to myself “this isn’t worth the trouble I will just sleep in my camping chair”. To my surprise one of the leaders had drove his car to the campground ( cars were to be left in parking lot) and I was able to fill up my air mattress. The leader left and parked his car and my spring of electric in the wilderness disappeared for the rest of the week.

That night as I slept in the tent, I quickly fell asleep to the sounds of bullfrogs and spring peepers. I awoke later that night, to find myself sleeping on a flat mattress. In the middle of the night, my mattress had popped on a rusty nail on the wooden pallet in the tent. This set the standard for the rest of the week. I didn’t sleep very well on boards for the rest of the week.

This taught me a good lesson. The lesson that can be taught from this is: Preparing isn’t the same as Preparing Correctly. This leads me back to preparing for vacation.

Preparing the Home for Vacation

You can prepare for leaving for vacation. Or you can prepare to leave correctly. When you leave things to the last minute, you tend to forget some of the important steps. Prepare and pack a good chunk of time before you leave. Unplug all electric devices in your house. Set up a good home security system. Monitored security systems are the best to go with. Most of all, take care of everything before you leave. Then you don’t have to worry about it! Go out and travel!
