If you are considering retiring in Thailand, then it’s a really good idea to do some travelling around the country first before making your final decision. Certainly, the majority of expats land in Bangkok and stay in Bangkok, but there are some other really wonderful options available besides the crazy vibes of the Big Mango!
Wherever you eventually decide on as your new residence, we highly recommend you engage the services of a moving company in Bangkok whose dedicated professionals will guide you every step of the way, from your arrival to your new home, and you won’t need to lift a finger!
Today we will focus on one of our favourite options, lovely Hua Hin!
Just a couple of hours’ drive south of Bangkok on the west side of Thai Bay lies this former seaside fishing village turned modern getaway. Thailand’s royal family constructed a summer palace on the quiet shores in the 1920s and were soon followed by the nation’s elite who built vacation homes along the wide, sandy strands. Today’s Hua Hin is a popular weekend destination for Bangkok’s tired expats who need a bit of sun and sea to refresh them from all of that metropolitan hustle and bustle! They arrive in fleets of minibuses to enjoy the beaches and the town’s many entertainment venues and excellent restaurants, then come Sunday the activity dies down and Hua Hin returns to its usual sleepy state.
For those lucky expats who choose to become residents of Hua Hin, expect to enjoy long walks down the lovely and very clean beaches, serenaded by the sounds of seabirds. The more adventurous can enjoy a variety of water sports, or even try their hand at doing some saltwater fishing! After sunset you can stroll through the town’s charming night market, where you can discover a wide variety of inexpensive, and sometimes even useful items, as well as delightful Thai handicrafts. Once you have scratched your shopping itch, saunter over to the friendly seafood stalls to sample the day’s fresh catch! If you are looking for something a bit posher, then enjoy a candlelit dinner at one of the wharfside’s high-quality restaurants.
There is always plenty to do in Hua Hin if you grow restless from all the fresh sea air and quiet days. Hua Hin plays host to an exciting annual jazz festival featuring some great local musicians as well as famous international acts, and it all happens right on the beach! There is also a local winery open for tastings, and although the winemaking industry in Thailand took some time to grow more refined, the product has evolved into some very tasty vintages worth sampling. Sound good so far? That’s just a small taste of Hua Hin’s many pleasures!
Direct flights from Bangkok to Hua Hin make getting there easy, so you can enjoy Hua Hin’s remote small-town feel, but get back to the outside world fast when needed. The Thailand Tourism Authority’s Hua Hin office has useful information on their website so you can learn more about this seaside gem. We hope this inspires you to come visit Hua Hin, and we will wager that once you do you will want to stay!
